He adds, “I said, ‘I am not going to a strip bar, where they cross dress. Guys who are girls,’ I said. ‘I am not going to there. If that’s how it is, forget this whole thing.’ Afterwards, she wrote some mean things about me in the press. And I wrote that she is a nasty witch, after I was so kind to her.”

New York Strip Clubs: Q+A: Adam L. Penenberg

Penenberg: In some ways we already have. ok, perhaps not implanted in our bodies, but what is an iPhone or BlackBerry but a tracking device? If you look at cultural trends over the past 20 years, you see that when a certain class of people take, say, steroids — pro athletes — then high school athletes and gym rats follow suit. Even swimsuit models have been known to dose on human growth hormone. Plastic surgery was once something celebrities, strippers and very rich people did. Now it’s something that is quite common. If a device made you smarter, your brain able to process ideas better, wouldn’t it be hard to say no? Sad to say such devices, if they offered a clear benefit, would be like steroids are to high school athletes. Hard not to do it if other players — especially competitors — were dosing. If you could pay $500 for a device to be implanted that would make you twice as smart, would you pass it up, especially if some of your colleagues had it? Then you would suddenly find yourself vulnerable at the office. Why pay you when they can hire someone twice as smart?

New York Adult Entertainment: History boy

But much of that activism, says Carter, was soon swept away. “Americans have been pretty complacent since the 1980s with the resurgence of the far-right wing,” he says. “They’re trying to destroy the progress that has been made in American society. I feel like I’m maybe the only one in a room of 10,000 that says this is horrible.”
By the mid-nineties, Carter undertook a decade-long research project on the Stonewall Riots that resulted in his 2004 book about the events. In Stonewall, Carter uncovers some surprising history, including details about the bar’s shady owner, Ed Murphy, a gay man who, according to Carter, blackmailed gay people, ran a prostitution ring and was connected with several deaths. “He used the Stonewall Inn to blackmail and murder gay people,” Carter says his sources for the book told him. “Later, he announced himself one of the leaders of the Stonewall Riots.”

New York Adult Entertainment: Hungary: Illegal activity accounts for 1 percent of GDP

Hungary: Illegal activity accounts for 1 percent of GDP
Should we economists have two figures for gross domestic products with an official number an unofficial one including the underground economy? You have to wonder reading some of the emerging markets economic data.
Prostitution and the illegal drug trade boosted Hungary’s economic output figures for the last 14 years after the government revised the way it calculates gross domestic product.
The two activities account for about 1 percent of GDP, statistician Peter Szabo said in an interview in Budapest today. Their inclusion “significantly” boosted output figures going back to 1995, he said.
You can add piracy and other items to the underground economy. On one hand, official statistics understate economic data. In addition, better accounting of the underground economy—not to mention analytics—could at least shed light on better policy responses to these issues.

How many john’s were arrested? None, right?
I wonder if this was like the NHPD Narcotics Unit sting on massage parlors last spring when agents ‘went undercover’ and received sexual services multiple times before, um, busting their move.

Its one thing to arrest the prostitutes, women who are down and out and in need of long term and effective rehabilitation, but their pimps are the real culprits here. These women are only part of the story and they will most likely be easily replaced with others from the road of desperation. Also, where there are prostitutes, there are clients. The ‘clientelle’ are the flip side of the coin. Without demand, there is no need. And, without multifaceted intervention, this sad cycle will simply repeat itself.

New York Adult Entertainment: Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman Broadway Reviews: So-So

Elizabeth Vincentelli of The New York Post: “Huff’s idea of thinking outside the box begins and ends with his naming the Irish character Joey (Craig) and the Italian one Denny (Jackman). Everything else is steeped in hoary convention, from the flashback structure to the tone, dripping with tough-guy attitude…. Bad-boy Denny takes kickbacks on the job but his domestic life, complete with wife and kids, is relatively settled. Responsible Joey goes to sensitivity training but also has a drinking problem and can’t get a date. That’s about it for layers.
“When things come to a head in a mishmash involving a lactating prostitute, a violent pimp, a serial killer and a puppy — sadly, they aren’t all together in a bar — Joey must re-examine his lifelong relationship with his hotheaded friend and partner.
