New York Adult Entertainment: Letter: More fair reporting on Fair Haven, please

I am deeply disappointed, however, that the same critical analysis was not provided for the New Haven Police Department’s “story” on a Fair Haven prostitution sting (“Police charge nine women in prostitution sting,” Sept. 29). The piece reads like a NHPD press release; where is the News’ reporting?
As a resident of Fair Haven, I can think of many interventions that the city could provide for our community that would be more useful than entrapping nine low-income women on prostitution charges. For example, comprehensive harm-reduction services that engage drug users in systems of care by providing safe housing and access to treatment for mental health and addiction problems would be a better response to “complaints from citizens in the area” than incarcerating these women for a few months before releasing them back into the same community circumstances that led to their arrests.

New York Adult Entertainment: Theater review: ‘A Steady Rain’ on Broadway

Jackman allows you to feel both the warmth and the tyranny of Denny’s love. A taller presence than Craig, he takes up more stage space physically and theatrically, which is just how it should be, given the way his character swaggers like the king of his own limited universe.
Interestingly, the more Craig’s Joey shrinks, the more he seems to be concealing valuable qualities that Denny conspicuously lacks. Perennially in the shadow of his strutting companion, Joey grows in stature with every hitch in Huff’s short but overstuffed narrative.
As much a morality tale as a journey down mean inner-city streets, “A Steady Rain” tracks the increasingly grave missteps of a man who habitually puts himself above the law. The action starts skidding when Denny drives home a prostitute he thought might make a good match for Joey (two reforming acts for the price of one), and ends up, through a chain of out-of-control criminal events, jeopardizing what matters most to him.

New York Adult Entertainment: In the ’70s, All New York Seemed Young and Gay

… City Boy” quickly becomes an open-throttled tour of New York City during the bad old days of the 1960s and early ’70s: crime, graffiti, garbage in the streets, Steppenwolf and Foghat leaking out of car tape decks, gay men wearing whistles around their necks to summon help when ambushed by gangs. These bad old days morphed into a star-spangled gay coming of age in the decade after Stonewall. Gay men could chuck those whistles. They were taking judo classes and becoming buff, striding armies of one.
Mr. White was there when the sexual piñata ripped open, and he collected his share of the goodies. In his previous memoir, “My Lives” (2006), he happily over-shared about things like his boundless appetite for male prostitutes, whom he ordered to his door like so many steaming boxes of pizza. In “City Boy” he remains a shock-and-awe exhibitionist.

New York Adult Entertainment: Embattled Gov. Paterson Takes to the Road

… As I get around the state and we start to explain that, people will start to see that this period – and I don’t know why I had to be here when it happened – but this period in the last 18 months was probably the most significant downturn even including the Great Depression,” Paterson said.
“As we start to rise from this recession, people will see that some of the tough choices, and some that were hard to take, were the only ways to keep ourselves out of the turmoil that you see other states in.”
Paterson, the state’s first black governor, inherited the post in March 2008 when Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution probe. Battered by a faltering economy, his poll numbers are hovering at record lows. Then he learned last week that President Barack Obama’s administration is worried he’ll drag other Democrats down in 2010 if he runs for a full term.

New York Adult Entertainment: sexxxpo Controversy

Promoters also say the expo brings business to the community by filling hotels and restaurants.
But the city of Edison, New Jersey, didn’t want the help.
After the erotic tradeshow left last year, Edison’s council passed an ordinance to try to strip organizer’s rights to bring the unconventional convention back.
They fell just short of that goal because the center is just over 1,000 feet away from a school, church or other venue.
“The people who are uncomfortable with it don’t come,” said one participant. “I mean there are certain TV shows that some people don’t watch. It’s the same thing. You have the option, and that’s what democracy and freedom are about.”
Vendors here sell adult oriented content and novelties from t-shirts to towels. And for those who think there’s a little too much on this, convention goers say this.
