New York Adult Entertainment: Chicago’s Bloomingdale Rail Could Become Giant, Hydrogen-Producing Greenhouse

Chicago’s Bloomingdale Rail Could Become Giant, Hydrogen-Producing Greenhouse
When I was in college, a graffiti-writing friend took me to one of his favorite secret spots, a neglected section of elevated train track in Manhattan’s meat packing district. We had to politely interrupt some transvestite prostitutes in an alley to climb the one scalable wall up to this derelict wonderland. Last month I found myself in that same spot, but it’s now the High Line, an elevated New York City park, a mile-and-a-half long, that winds through Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen. Chicago is now looking at a similar project, but one more ambitious by several degrees of magnitude.

Subversive Historian – 10/30/09
Back in the day on October 30th, 1905, George Bernard Shaw’s play “Mrs. Warren’s Profession” debuted in New York. After having been banned in Britain, the socialist playwright’s production exploring the social underpinnings of prostitution moved to the States. “Mrs. Warren’s Profession,” opened in New Haven, Connecticut at the Hyperion Theater only to be shut down the very next day by the Mayor on the grounds of that something “improper” had transpired during the production. The theater company then moved to Garrick Theater in New York. Opening night was a successful sell-out, but that didn’t stop the press from slamming the play as improper the very next day. Before the curtain could rise once more, the producer and actors involved in “Mrs. Warren’s Profession,” were arrested on obscenity charges.

New York Adult Entertainment: Answers About New York’s Uniqueness, Part 3

How is it that NYC, the most innovative, modern, leading role model for so many cities in our world, can also have such a strong position that does not include gay marriage, immigration, civil rights, etc?!
New York seems to be much more conservative than we could have every possibly imagined. Can you explain this enigma? She use to be what she looks like, but now . . .?

Sure, we’re the birthplace of the American Communist Party, the N.A.A.C.P. and the gay rights movement, But nowadays, you practically have to scrounge for pornography, even in Times Square. (That we have a Museum of Sex suggests just how much of an artifact sex has become compared with a generation ago when out-of-town visitors were instead greeted by the prostitutes lining Eighth Avenue).

New York Adult Entertainment: Sexy Halloween costumes: Scary trick or tart treat?

Honey, there’s a reason it’s not okay for you to dress like a prostitute. It’s belittling, demeaning, and objectifying every single day of the year. No matter how hard you try to justify your undoubtedly-tasteful, G-string-and-bra ensemble, you’re deluding yourself. Baring every bit of your body is not an empowering choice that kicks the patriarchal paradigm right it the balls. In fact, the effect on them is quite different.
Women are expected to wear as little as possible on Oct. 31. There are literally thousands of options of sexually charged costumes for women, from “sexy Alice in Wonderland” to “sexy repressed ethnic group” to “sexy Spongebob.”

The fact that it’s only one night a year is perhaps the most distressing aspect of this entire topic. The notion that women are “allowed” to dress like prostitutes only on Halloween implies that we need “permission” to dress a certain way.

New York Adult Entertainment: Woman ‘offered sex for World Series tickets’

… I didn’t do anything wrong, so I’m not embarrassed about my actions. I’m embarrassed about how I was arrested,” she said.
The University of Pennsylvania graduate said she had wanted to take her husband to a baseball game between her beloved Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees.
The self-described “buxom blonde” said she was simply trying to score tickets online, as she had in the past.
Ms Finkelstein told WPVI-TV: “I was hoping to get cheap tickets, maybe meet someone, and talk, and bat my eyelashes and maybe get some tickets.”
Her lawyer William J Brennan said his client was merely “a nice lady overcome with Phillies fever”.
She might have dropped double entendres in her Craigslist advertisement but never explicitly offered sex, he added.
Mr Brennan hopes to get the misdemeanour charge of promoting prostitution dismissed.

New York Strip Clubs: Tony Scott to Direct Chippendales Biopic

Scott is known for his dramatic thrillers and violent psychological sketches of (often male) characters. And though the over-the-top ‘80s decadence of Chippendales seems ripe for parody, Banerjee’s tragic story suits Scott’s serious cinematic style.
Banerjee was a Bengali-born American entrepreneur who ran a Culver City, Calif. gas station before he bought an L.A. club and turned it into the first strip club featuring female mud wrestling. Expanding his exotic dancing empire in the ‘80s, he soon found business partners and created Chippendales shows and clubs in New York, London, Germany and Asia. But Banerjee’s paranoia was his downfall. He attempted to burn down two rival nightclubs and was ultimately arrested for hiring a hit man to kill a former business partner and two Chippendales dancers. He was found dead in his prison cell in October 1994, on the eve of his sentencing.
