New York Adult Entertainment: Woman in N.J. probe held on drug charges | Philadelphia Inquirer | 12/24/2009

And for most of the last decade, investigators allege, they were partners in a criminal enterprise that trafficked in cocaine and prostitution, and bribed witnesses to keep them from talking – and when that wasn’t an option, resorted to murder to shut them up.
Originally charged as a minor player, Yolanda Jauregui, 37, has been portrayed in recent court filings as a key figure in the operation headed by her boyfriend, Paul Bergrin, a rogue Newark, N.J., defense attorney.
Now held without bail, Jauregui (pronounced HOW-reh-gee) was arraigned on a drug-trafficking charge on Monday, the latest twist in a case that reads like the script of a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Authorities also allege that after Bergrin was arrested in 2007 for his involvement in a $1,000-an-hour call girl operation in New York City, Jauregui plotted to have a witness against him killed and agreed to pay $10,000 for the murder contract.

New York Strip Clubs: Council OKs street rename for Sean Bell

The Council approved by a vote of 42-5 a bill to rename 70 streets in New York, including the area of Liverpool Street between 94th Avenue and 101st Street, where Bell, 23, was killed in a hail of 50 police bullets on the day he was going to marry his high school sweetheart.
Nicole Paultre-Bell told the Council “Sean Bell Way” would serve as a reminder to Queens residents about the incident that changed her life and the community forever.
“Finally, there is some form of justice,” she told reporters after the vote. “When a child walks down the block, they’ll ask who Sean Bell is.”
The bridegroom was killed on the corner during the early morning hours of Nov. 25, 2006, after he and his friends left a bachelor party at the now-defunct Kalua Cabaret. The strip club was being investigated by undercover police officers for illegal prostitution and drugs.

New York Strip Clubs: The show goes on

The folks who organize the annual New Years Eve ball drop in downtown Buffalo let it be known Friday that this years festivities in Roosevelt Square might have to be canceled due to, of course, the recession.
By Sunday, enough friends of a good time had stepped forward that the party is back on. This rapid turn of events, from sad to successful, speaks very well of the community as a whole and of the events saviors in particular.
The Buffalo Sabres Foundation and Upstate New York Transplant Services rode to the events rescue over the weekend, ponying up enough money to cover the shortfall and ensuring that the show will go on.
It was even enough that organizers could politely decline the offer of the needed $20,000 from the owner of Ricks Tally-Ho, a local strip club. That generousity is just as praiseworthy, but not altogether the kind of association organizers were seeking for a family event.

New York Strip Clubs: XXX-Mas Comes Early for New York Strippers Represented by Nichols Kaster, PLLP

On December 16, 2009, United States District
Court Judge John G. Koeltl conditionally certified a class consisting of an
estimated 4,500 women who worked as strippers at the Rick’s Cabaret located
at 50 West 33rd Street, New York, NY 10001.

Other lawsuits on behalf of misclassified strippers, some brought by the
United States Department of Labor, have resulted in favorable verdicts.
Rick’s is no stranger to these claims. A nearly identical misclassification
lawsuit filed by a single entertainer against Rick’s settled for $36,000
plus attorneys’ fees. In documents filed with the Court, the two named
plaintiffs in this case estimated their individual damages as exceeding
$20,000 each. Given the size of the class, potential damages for the class
are well into the millions.
“Rick’s has it backwards,” said Plaintiffs’ attorney E. Michelle Drake,
Strippers are not supposed to have to pay to work. They may agree to strip
off their clothes, but they have not agreed to be stripped of their
rights.” Drake continued, “Fifty dollars per night, plus an additional
amount for hourly wages, adds up to a lot of money very quickly, especially
when that amount is doubled under federal law.”

New York Strip Clubs: Rick’s Cabaret Strippers Can Proceed With Lawsuit, Judge Says

Rick’s Cabaret Strippers Can Proceed With Lawsuit, Judge Says
December 23, 2009, 06:15 PM EST
By Linda Sandler
Dec. 23 (Bloomberg) — Strippers who worked at Rick’s Cabaret International Inc. in New York won permission from a U.S. judge to proceed with a lawsuit alleging the night club operator paid them less than minimum wages for taking off their clothes and charged them for using the facilities.
The strippers led by Sabrina Hart got conditional approval for a class action lawsuit, according to a Dec. 17 filing in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. Rick’s Cabaret deemed them to be independent contractors to hold down their wages and made them understand they might be sacked if they didn’t pay fees and charges, according to a second amended complaint filed Nov. 24.

New York Strip Clubs: How Golf Reporters Slept on Tiger, Mickelson

The story of how Tiger Woods managed to squash a magazine from revealing one of his “transgressions” three years ago – first reported by the New York Post, then by the Wall Street Journal – is a familiar one in the golf media world.
This, according to a great post (”Phil Mickelson Better Not Run Over a Fire Hydrant in 2010″) by Stephanie Wei, an ex-Yale golfer and occasional Huffington Post contributor.
Wei points out that, in 2005, Sports Illustrated and another publication were rumored to be looking into “an explosive story” concerning another top golfer: Phil Mickelson.
The story involved, “in no particular order, his illegitimate child with a stripper in Ohio, unconventional marriage, and sizable gambling debts, which Callaway supposedly assumed when he switched to them as his equipment sponsor mid-season in 2004.”
