New York Adult Entertainment: Blind New York governor scraps election bid in wake of scandal

… Today I am announcing I am ending my campaign for governor of the state of New York,” Paterson, 55, told a news conference.
Paterson, the state’s first black governor, is embroiled in allegations that he and state police improperly sought to pressure a woman who had accused one of his top aides of domestic violence.
In his statement, Paterson insisted: “I have never abused my office — not now, not ever. And I believe that when the facts are reviewed the truth will prevail.”
He also resisted growing calls for his resignation, saying he would serve out his term.
The announcement marked a dramatic reversal for Paterson, who rose from relative obscurity to the governorship when Spitzer, a hard-driving former prosecutor, was forced to step down after being caught frequenting prostitutes.

New York Escorts: Report: NY Gov. Paterson dropping out of race

Both the New York Post and the New York Daily News are reporting that Paterson has decided to drop out of the race. An official announcement is expected later Friday.
The governor’s decision clears the Democratic primary field for state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who’d been the heavy favorite anyway. It might end up scaring off Republicans too; there was speculation that a primary fight with Paterson would hurt Cuomo with black voters for the general election, but that won’t happen now.
Paterson will reportedly not resign his office. If he did, the job would go to Lt. Gov. Richard Ravitch.
There’s an ironic note to this whole story. Paterson only became governor because he was lieutenant governor when the Times revealed then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s use of an escort service. Now Paterson himself has been taken down by the Times as well.

New York Escorts: Report: Gov. Paterson Drops Election Bid

New York Gov. David Paterson has decided not to run for a full term, a source told the New York Daily News on Friday.
Paterson, a Democrat, scheduled an afternoon news conference. The source said the governor, under fire for getting in touch with a woman who had accused one of his aides of domestic violence, does not plan to resign but will drop his candidacy.
The first black governor of New York, Paterson was lieutenant governor when he replaced Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer resigned in March 2008 after little more than a year in office after a federal investigation into his use of escort services became public.
State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, is also a candidate for governor. The attorney general is investigating Paterson’s alleged contact with Sherr-Una Booker the day before a court hearing.

New York Adult Entertainment: NY governor drops election bid amid scandal

The scandal began when The New York Times revealed that one of Paterson’s closest aides, David Johnson, had been accused of beating his girlfriend and that state police harassed the alleged victim until she dropped the case.
Even more damaging were revelations that Mr Paterson had telephone contact with the woman, although the nature of that contact remains unclear.
In his statement on Friday, Mr Paterson insisted: “I have never abused my office – not now, not ever. And I believe that when the facts are reviewed the truth will prevail.”
He also resisted growing calls for his resignation, saying he would serve out his term.
The announcement marked a dramatic reversal for Mr Paterson, who was plucked from relative obscurity to take over the governorship from Mr Spitzer, a hard-driving former prosecutor who stepped down after being caught frequenting prostitutes.

Next Problem: Governing New York
Tim Roske/Associated Press Gov. David Paterson with Lieut. Gov. Richard Ravitch at a budget presentation in Albany in January.
After reports that he intervened to protect an aide in a domestic violence case, Gov. David A. Paterson of New York announced on Friday that he would not seek election.
Mr. Paterson took office after Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned in disgrace in a prostitution scandal, and the problems of the two governors have disrupted an already disorderly government in Albany.
With a budget crisis, the aftermath of various scandals and legislative stalemates, what can and should the next governor do? The question is not whether anyone can govern New York — someone has to — but what kind of changes will it take for a leader to govern effectively?

New York Adult Entertainment: Paterson scraps run for another term

The woman had been granted two temporary orders of protection and had said in court the state police tried to persuade her to drop the charges, according to The Times. Following a phone conversation with Paterson the day before, the woman did not appear for a Feb. 7 court hearing about her request for a final protective order against Johnson, and the judge dismissed the case, The Times reported.
Paterson has asked Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who was expected to run against the governor in the Democratic primary, to investigate the matter.
“I have never abused my office — not now, not ever,” Paterson said at the news conference. “I believe that when the facts are reviewed, the truth will prevail.”

Here’s the original post:
New York Gov. David Paterson is dropping his re-election bid amid a growing domestic-violence scandal involving a top aide, according to various news organizations. The New York Daily News reported Friday that Paterson has decided not to run again but that he will not resign the governorship.
On Thursday, Paterson was hit by press reports that he and state police had contacted a woman involved in a Halloween confrontation with one of his advisers at her home. That prompted some key Democrats from Washington to New York  to urge Paterson to drop his underdog bid for election, AP reports.

New York Adult Entertainment: Parking in New York proves a pitfall yet again for Jerry Seinfeld

Elizabeth Clark Zoia, Seinfeld’s spokeswoman, said that his driver became concerned for his safety when they were met by a crowd of fans outside the TV studio so he placed the permit in the car window so he could escort the comedian inside. She said Seinfeld felt that his driver was just trying to help him and so will not be dismissed. She promised that the parking placard would not be used again.
It is not the first time that the comedian has been caught up in difficulties over parking. He once spent $2 million to convert a building in the Upper West Side of Manhattan into a private climate-controlled garage for his collection of 20 Porsches, provoking uproar from neighbours.
In one episode of his show, called The Parking Space, the character George Costanza vows to find a free parking spot instead of paying for a car park. “It’s like going to a prostitute,” George explains to his friend Elaine. “Why should I pay when, if I apply myself, maybe I can get it for free?”

New York Strip Clubs: Congress’ Health Care Message to Boomers: ‘I Got You, Babe’

That’s no longer the case, unfortunately. The problems with health care are systemic, mostly owing to overregulation, competition for grant monies and poorly thought-out approaches to privacy in a computerized age. None of these can be dealt with by mandating universal insurance coverage, through medical savings accounts or tax breaks.
Indeed, you know something’s amiss when a stripper named Cynthia Hess (a.k.a. “Chesty Love”), of Green Bay, Wisconsin, can win a $2,088 tax deduction for implants that enlarged her bust size to freak show proportions (size 56FF, that’s 10 pounds per bosom, if you need to know). Yet, in Bethesda, Maryland, Karen Tomasow-Richardson, a federal employee with full coverage under the Federal Government Employee insurance program got only $3,000 of an approximately $90,000 bill for a series of operations that included a combination of emergency bone grafts and implants which staved off infection and, in the end, saved her life.
