New York Strip Clubs: Another Door Closes in Bell Case

Another Door Closes in Bell Case
It could not have been an easy decision. Nearly two years after Sean Bell died in a hail of bullets in the early hours of the morning outside a seedy strip club in southeast Queens, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has decided that there is insufficient evidence to charge the police with civil rights violations.
Bell died hours before he was to marry Nicole Paultre-Bell. Two of his friends, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield, were also shot but survived. No doubt they are disappointed by the decision. Led by the Rev. Al Sharpton, they had hoped a federal prosecution based on a violation of Bell’s civil rights would bring them the justice they have been waiting for.
The community was already stunned when three of the five officers were acquitted in a bench trial April 25, 2008. The officers involved in the shooting still face administrative charges, but that will be little consolation for Paultre-Belle, Guzman and Benefield.

New York Strip Clubs: Bodley: A-Rod at peace with himself

I asked the Yankees’ third baseman if he felt he was turning the page a year ago when he walked away after confessing to the world, his teammates and reporters that, yes, he was a steroids user while with the Texas Rangers from 2001-03.
“It was the most difficult day of my life; if not that, certainly among the top three,” he answered. “It was very embarrassing. I would never want to do that again, but looking back, it was a necessary step for me.”
A-Rod, the highest-paid baseball player in the land, tasted ashes. There was the steroids scandal, his association with strippers that dominated the back pages of New York tabloids and a divorce. He says he looked in the mirror and didn’t like what he saw. His confessional was followed by hip surgery that kept him on the shelf for six weeks.

New York Strip Clubs: Cheetahs get stripped bare

Two hot spots, China Club and Cheetahs Gentlemen’s Club & Restaurant, are seeking bankruptcy protection and filed for Chapter 11.
China Club’s filing blamed the fall of Lehman Brothers for its financial troubles. Located on West 47th Street, just a few blocks from Lehman’s former headquarters, the investment bankers were regular patrons. The club also said in the filing that business began declining in 2007.
The club, a New York City institution since 1986 when it first opened on the Upper West Side, listed both assets and liabilities between $1 million and $10 million.

Trend-spotting newsletter Urban Daddy described the experience as the ancient Japanese art of nyotaimori, or “female body presentation.” Web site The G Manifesto described Cheetahs as one of the Top 10 strip clubs in New York.

New York Adult Entertainment: Capsule reviews: `Cop Out’ and others

… Defendor” — Imagine Woody Harrelson’s slaphappy simpleton Woody Boyd from “Cheers” if he were mad as hell and not planning to take it anymore. Then give him a nasty, vintage World War I trench club and turn him loose on the mean streets. That’s roughly the scenario in writer-director Peter Stebbings’ tale of a wannabe superhero with no superpowers and no abundance of brain power, either. The low-budget movie continually shifts from comic-book spoof to gritty crime story to mental-health drama, the inconsistent tone preventing it from ever working as one or another. Harrelson plays a slow-witted man who dresses in a makeshift black costume and hits the streets as Defendor, a fighter for justice. He finds an ally in a spirited hooker (Kat Dennings) and an enemy in a corrupt cop (Elias Koteas) involved with a drug and prostitute ring. Stebbings casts Harrelson as a vigilante with a heart of gold. Trouble is, our hero seems as much a sadist as the bad guys. R for drug use and language throughout, violence and sexual content. 102 minutes. Two stars out of four.

New York Adult Entertainment: New York state governor caught up in allegations against aide

The governor of New York state called a woman who had lodged a domestic abuse accusation against one of his aides, just before she failed to show up in court to press the case, it has emerged.
The apparent intervention by David Paterson, embroiled in a tough fight for a second term, was revealed in the latest article about the governor in the New York Times.
The newspaper last week quoted aides and associates who said that Paterson was remote from governing, spending little time working and lots of time relaxing with friends and campaign donors as the state grapples with political gridlock in Albany, corruption allegations, ethics violations and a huge budget shortfall.
Paterson, New York’s first black governor, assumed office in 2008 after Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned after a prostitution scandal. But the governor has failed to garner much public support or campaign cash in his effort to win election to a second term.

New York Adult Entertainment: Herzog fails in crack at detective pic

And sure enough, many critics have convinced themselves that this is high art, with Herzog the auteur twisting a genre flick to his own ends, creating yet another portrait of a nearly insane obsessive. A more reasonable assessment would be: “Miami Vice” on crack. It’s your basic police procedural drama enlivened with random hallucinatory shots of lizards and dialogue like, “Do fish love dreams?” thrown in to be, well, rather self-consciously arty. Herzog and a crime flick do not make for a comfortable fit.
The story is reminiscent of the original: corrupt, loose cannon detective finds himself surprised to learn he still has a conscience. The film follows Cage’s cocaine-numbed cop as he shakes down nightclubbing couples for drugs (and the sheer thrill of humiliating them), helps himself to coke from the evidence room, and then does even more drugs with his prostitute girlfriend (Eva Mendes). Coupled with this is his surprisingly diligent investigation of a multiple homicide, in which a family of African immigrants — including the children — were brutally gunned down.

New York Adult Entertainment: Former Stockbroker Accused of Operating Ponzi Scheme

Former McKesson HBOC Chairman Charles McCall will remain free until his formal sentencing date, The Recorder has reported, despite requests from prosecutors to jail him immediately for failing to disclose an arrest for soliciting prostitution to court officials. A federal judge this week determined that McCall posed no flight risk, The Recorder explained, since he has made all of his scheduled court appearances since he was originally indicted on securities fraud charges in 2003. However, The Recorder added, the judge did raise McCall’s bail and ordered him to stay off his boat – which can reportedly make it to the Bahamas “on a clear day” – while he awaits formal sentencing for his crimes. more…
Government prosecutors are seeking to jail former McKesson HBOC Chairman Charles McCall ahead of his formal sentencing date for securities fraud, The Recorder has reported. Convicted on multiple counts of securities fraud last month, The Recorder noted, McCall was originally scheduled to be sentenced for his crimes sometime next year. But government aut …

New York Adult Entertainment: US Senate Holds Child Trafficking Hearing

The state attorney confirmed that her office rarely charges juveniles arrested for prostitution-related offenses. Instead the children are treated as victims in need of “support, services and a safe future”. This is an admirable and remarkable tactic however, one in desperate need of resources to bolster the State’s decision. Chicago like Miami, D.C., New York, Atlanta, and so many other metropolitan cities across the United States are in frantic need of man power and resources that can provide trafficked children a viable and safe future.
Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., chairman of the Subcommittee on Human Rights and the Law had called yesterday’s Senate hearing when he learned that over 100,000 American children per year become sex-trafficking victims. The subcommittee convened for almost two hours bringing to light ghastly testimony about what these children have to do to subsist. The sad outcome for nearly all trafficked children today is usually drug addiction, prostitution, becoming a “handler”, the person in charge of managing trafficked children or death.

Unfortunately, …

Birds Of A Reality Star Feather: We can barley stand the reality star power that came together this week when “Jersey Shore” quitter Angelina Pivarnick (who refused to sell T-shirts), “Real Housewives of New Jersey’s” Danielle Staub (who fans will remember was dubbed the “prostitution whore” by a co-star) and Dina Lohan (Lindsay’s mom) showed up at the Three-O Vodka’s Rangtang launch party in New York City – is this the best meet up in reality TV history or a further sign of the coming apocalypse?
Audrina’s New Rocker Guy Gets A “Hills” Role: Move over Justin Bobby – Audrina Patridge has a new man in the form pop rocker Ryan Cabrera. According to E! Online, Ryan was recently spotted filming scenes for the MTV reality series at Hollywood’s La Vida. Hmmm, if your show’s ratings are tanking (which they have been since Lauren Conrad’s departure), we’re not sure that a washed up pop star is the way to save it…just saying.
