New York Strip Clubs: Enjoyable ‘City Island’ aspires to be sleeper hit

Andy Garcia (one of the film’s producers) stars as Vince Rizzo, a prison guard – he prefers the term “correctional officer” – who nurtures secret dreams of being an actor. He locks himself in the family bathroom with a Brando biography instead of a copy of Playboy, and sneaks off at night to acting classes, telling his wife, Joyce, (Julianna Margulies) that he’s headed to a poker game. At his classes, he finds a soul mate (Emily Mortimer), a pretty student with secrets of her own.
The Rizzos’ daughter (Dominik Garcia-Lorido) is a college student whose parents don’t know she earns money as a stripper. The teenage son (Ezra Miller) is a wiseacre with a fetish for fat women. New to the household is a paroled stickup artist (Steven Strait) who moves in to help Vince build a backhouse. Only Vince knows that this frequently shirtless hunk is his son from a pre-Joyce relationship.

New York Strip Clubs: The whole fam damily

Actually, it’s not true that nobody knows why Vince brings Tony home. One person knows—Molly (Emily Mortimer), his newly assigned acting-class partner. Their teacher (a sardonic deadpan cameo by Alan Arkin) has assigned the students to share their “biggest secret,” with their partners, and Vince tells Molly about Tony. In return for the confidence, Molly makes it a project to reinforce Vince’s morale, encouraging him to attend a cattle-call audition for a Martin Scorsese movie.
Meanwhile, back at home, Joyce, angry that Tony has been brought into the household without consulting her, takes a cynical view of Vince’s “poker games” every night in the city. She doesn’t buy it; she knows Vince is having an affair. And with revenge on her mind, she takes an appraising look at this dangerous young hunk who’s been thrust under her nose. Wouldn’t that serve Vince right?
Add to these plot threads Vivian’s furtive work at the stripper bar and young Vinnie’s credulity-straining obsession with feeding plus-size women, and we know these family secrets are cruising for a collision, but we don’t know how it’s going to happen. Is somebody going to kill somebody or what?

New York Adult Entertainment: Theater Listings: April 30 — May 6

… BLOODSONG OF LOVE: THE ROCK ’N’ ROLL SPAGHETTI WESTERN’ A musical spoof of spaghetti westerns that could use a little more garlic in the Bolognese. Joe Iconis’s music is pleasant country rock, but his book and lyrics lack bite (2:30). Ars Nova, 511 West 54th Street, Clinton , (212) 239-6200, telecharge.com. (Isherwood)20100429
★ ‘BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON’ Alex Timbers and Michael Friedman’s rowdy, dopey and devastatingly shrewd emo-rock musical about the seventh American president (played with raw charisma by Benjamin Walker) is the season’s most entertaining — and quite possibly most perceptive — work of political theater (1:30). Public Theater, 425 Lafayette Street, at Astor Place, East Village , (212) 967-7555, publictheater.org. (Brantley)20100429
‘CAPTAIN PANTOJA AND THE SPECIAL SERVICE/PANTALEÓN Y LAS VISITADORAS’
Peruvian soldiers in the Amazon need female companionship, so Captain Pantoja enlists a whole corps of prostitutes, complete with cute, midriff-baring uniforms. This rousing, sexy and surprisingly sweet new musical could give bawdiness a good name. In Spanish with simultaneous English translation.

New York Adult Entertainment: Brief Thoughts on ‘Client 9.’

Comedy/Tragedy The movie is hilarious, and not just because of ditzy New York Confidential head Cecil Suwal, as Leah Rozen reported. Gibney stages the events of the past decade as an extended farce that culminated with Spitzer’s prostitution scandal but got pretty weird long before then. Joe Bruno, a current convicted felon and Spitzer’s most obnoxious foe during their joint time in office, becomes a bizarrely funny internal foil to the leading man’s Wall Street clean-up act. As Gibney puts it in a voiceover, Bruno was “the turd in Elliot’s punch bowl.” Roger J. Stone, meanwhile, serves as the movie’s shameful goon-for-hire and self-made political cartoon—a man so intent on enforcing conservative ideals that he has a Richard Nixon tattoo on his back. “I believe in a gonzo brand of politics,” he says, while basically confessing to having left a threatening voicemail for Spitzer’s father. His enabler, the cantankerous investment banker Ken Langone, acts like he lives 24/7 showdown with Spitzer as if they stumbled into …

New York Adult Entertainment: Mad Men review: Sharp suits and sharper women in this week’s season finale

There’s a website called What Would Don Draper Do? which offers advice to correspondents. A What Would Betty Draper Do? website would just need one answer: ‘Act dumb at every opportunity.’ Let’s hope Don hooks up with the well-upholstered Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks) in season four.
Now, there’s a woman who could deal with Don’s wandering eye. She’d probably take it out with one of her superstructure bras.
Mad Men is ostensibly just a drama about an ad agency, but the territory it covers is spectacularly wide-ranging.
Steve Wright was today jailed for life for murdering five prostitutes
The BBC’s Five Daughters, however, almost failed because of the limitations of its very narrow parameters.
Over three nights, it recounted the final weeks in the lives of the five young prostitutes murdered in Ipswich in 2006 by Steve Wright. Its focus on the victims was initially admirable  -  as the title emphasises, these unfortunates were all someone’s daughter.

New York Adult Entertainment: Nicholas Kristof Talks of Oppression of Women Worldwide

Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof told a story yesterday afternoon to a packed audience in Statler Hall about two 15-year-old Cambodian girls trapped in the despairing shackles of prostitution. He had spoken to both of them for an article he was working on as a reporter and was struck by the fact that after his article ran, they would return to their lives of physical and emotional abuse.

An 18th century slave would be worth approximately $40,000 today, while a prostitute in a country like India or Pakistan would be worth only a few hundred dollars, according to Kristof.
“That is why brothel owners do gouge out their eyes or kill them,” he said.

One questioner asked Kristof how he felt after he purchased the two Cambodian girls out of prostitution, considering that so many other girls in the same circumstances were left behind.

New York Adult Entertainment: At Churchill Downs, talk helps Kentucky Derby trainers pass the time

… The only ahead is tomorrow’s race,” he said.
D. Wayne Lukas has a Derby entry, the middle-odds Dublin, and has rebuilt his business here, nine years after he left Santa Anita. He is 74 and still attracts a female crowd. Standing nearby, watching the scrum for pictures with Lukas, was his friend Paul Hornung, the former football star.
“Look at that,” Hornung said. “He’s a rock star.”
Lukas, a master storyteller, gathered Hornung and a few friends and told of a horse he had entered in the first race Thursday, Luv Gov. He is owned by Marylou Whitney, who disliked Eliot Spitzer, the former New York governor who left office in a scandal involving call girls. In testimony against him, Spitzer was identified as “Client 9″; thus, Whitney’s name for another horse.

From the Gothamist Newsmap: A barricaded EDP on 60th Ave in Queens, a fatal jumper down at Faile St & Gilbert St in Brooklyn, and a bank robbery at 99 Park Ave in Manhattan.
“An auxiliary cop was accused Wednesday of being the hired muscle behind a Brooklyn brothel, ferrying hookers to casinos and threatening to kill a snitch.” He also married the madam!
The circumstances around a fatal crash between a tour helicopter and small plane over the Hudson last summer include a distracted controller, another controller who wasn’t wearing his glasses, an inexperienced chopper pilot, and more, according to a report.
The Time 100 list was released, maybe the only list in the world that includes Lady Gaga, Amartya Sen, Glenn Beck and Banksy. The Smoke Monster is sort of on the list (via Lost creators Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof.)

NORTH AMERICA
New York: Craigslist supports human trafficking and child exploitation as part of its charity work.
