At last report BP was making progress on the relief wells that are being drilled to plug the runaway well in the Gulf. The London Times reports that BP hopes to penetrate the casing of the leaking well and start pumping in well-sealing mud in about two weeks. Let’s hope something works.
In the next few weeks, or if things do not go well, perhaps months, the leaking well will be plugged, fishing hopefully will resume, the tourists will return, and the whole matter will be left to lawyers who will spend decades arguing how much New Orleans strip clubs that lost business during the oil spill should be remunerated by BP.
Someday, however, it will become apparent that the real disaster is taking place 150 miles to the south at BP’s multi-billion dollar Thunder Horse oil platform that was supposed to extract a billion barrels of oil at a rate of 250,000 barrels a day (b/d). A series centered around a fat camp for teens could fall into all kinds cliches and stereotypes and certainly there is opportunity with this premise to be preachy.For the most part though, “Huge” , which is written by “My So-Called Life’ scribe WInnie Holzman and her daughter, avoids those problems and is a heartwarming show about feeding your spirit more than it is about worshipping – or hating -your body.
Nikki Blonsky plays Wilhelmina, a teenager who has no interest in attending Camp VIctory. No, her parents have sent her there agains her will. On the other hand, many of the other campers can’t wait to return to the camp as it is a safe haven against a skinny world where they don’t fit in. But “Will” doesn’t take long to stir things up by doing a strip tease on the first day of camp and later providing a blackmarket source of junk food for hungry campers.

Moviefone.com, in it’s latest feature looking at the real life locations that are used in iconic films, profiled the Cheetah Strip Club in Las Vegas, which was featured in the so bad its great film “Showgirls” starring Elizabeth Berkley.  The profile noted that the club is currently being managed by former WWE star Charles “The Godfather” Wright.  Yeah, I don’t know why he’d pick that gig over taking bumps, either!

He added: “When the women would respond, thinking they were going to be working at a nail salon, she then forced them into prostitution with threats of violence, intimidation and embarrassment.”

Inside Cui’s Tudor-style home, investigators discovered several wallets stuffed with 20,000 dollars in cash and more than 1,000 condoms, massage oils, lingerie and other items were also seized in raids on the places of alleged prostitution.
