New York Strip Clubs: Elaine Stritch anchors ‘The Full Monty’ at the Paper Mill Playhouse
Equally important is the immense heart that beats throughout the show. Some characters discover true love, while others who didn’t know they had it learn that they’d possessed it all along.
Playing Jerry, the divorced father who’s terribly behind on child support, is Wayne Wilcox. He’s a distinct improvement over Patrick Wilson, who originated the role nine years ago. Where Wilson looked as if he just stepped out of a salon, Wilcox appears genuinely sleep-deprived and fraught with worry. Bad circumstances haven’t taken away his good humor, though, and Wilcox nails every joke without hammering it. He’s got a nice voice that does well by David Yazbek’s quirky score.
The best voice, though, belongs to Allen E. Read, who plays a mama’s boy who’s ready to grow up. Milton Craig Nealy is the best dancer, playing the most aged of the strippers, who has quite a bit of life left. Choreographer Denis Jones knows how to use Nealy, too.
