The estate of Sean Bell, who was killed in 2006 outside a strip club in Queens hours before he was due to marry fiancee Nicole Paultre, is to receive $3.25million.
Sean’s injured friend Joseph Guzman will get $3million and another pal hurt in the shooting, Trent Benefield, is to get $900,000.
Three police officers were acquitted of manslaughter and other charges in 2008.
… Sky is the highest gambler of them all,” said Zehrer, who’s a theater major at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. “He’s a traveling gambler. He doesn’t like being tied down. He likes to jump from girl to girl and crap game to crap game.
“He’s very cool, very suave. He falls in love with Sarah and he thinks this is the last thing he wanted.”
University of Wyoming theater major Lauren Shultz describes Sarah Brown, as “an all or nothing girl. She’s real naive and sweet and hasn’t been out of the mission. She doesn’t want to fall in love, but, of course, she does.”
Noelia Antweiler, who’s also a UW theater student, sees Adelaide as “a little over the top all the time. She’s a performer at the Hot Box Club, which would be a strip club today.” And although Nathan and Adelaide bicker all the time, “they’re two peas in a pod.”

… Nobody wins in this,” a somber Joseph Guzman — who was shot 17 times and still wears a leg brace — said at a news conference a day after the settlement was announced.
The deal in a case that ignited community outrage and raised questions about police firepower awards $3.25 million to the estate of Sean Bell, $3 million to Guzman and $900,000 to a third victim, Trent Benefield, minus 30 percent legal fees.
The Bell estate payout will benefit two young daughters he had with Nicole Paultre Bell, who legally took his name after his death.
The fiancee called the settlement “reasonable.” But, she added, the girls “will never have their father.”
Bell, 23, died in a hail of 50 bullets on Nov. 25, 2006, around the corner from a Queens topless bar where he had just had a bachelor party and where undercover police were investigating complaints of prostitution.
Paterson has resisted calls to resign from office, although several top-ranking aides, critical of his actions, left their jobs when the story unfolded earlier this year.
The report also said it found errors by the New York Police Department and errors in judgment by the head of the governor’s State Police protection detail and by the aide, David Johnson, who no longer works for Paterson.
It noted that the Bronx district attorney could decide whether to pursue charges against Johnson, whose ex-girlfriend accused him of domestic violence.
The report also noted that Paterson pursued no action against his aide although he knew of the woman’s accusations.
“It is hard to reconcile this conduct with the Governor’s expressed commitment to the cause of domestic violence prevention,” it said.
Paterson took over the governor’s job in 2008 when former Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution scandal, and the term expires at the end of this year.

Some of those postings included accusations of bestiality, prostitution, doing drugs, contracting various STDs, spreading AIDS, and even changing form into the devil himself. One posting reads:
“I heard that the 11th cent [Denise Finkel] got aids when she hired a male prostitute who came dressed as a sexy fireman. apparantly .. she was lonely, because her friends no longer associated with her. her sexy fireman prostitute was her only company. in addition to acquiring aids, this nameless 11th cent aquired crabs, and syphillis.”
…
Now, however, the whole case is being dismissed. “A reasonable reader, given the overall context of the posts, simply would not believe that the Plaintiff contracted AIDS by having sex with a horse or a baboon or that she contracted AIDS from a male prostitute who also gave her crabs and syphilis, or that having contracted sexually transmitted diseases in such manner she morphed into the devil,” wrote Judge Marber. “Taken together, the statements can only be read as puerile attempts by adolescents to outdo each other.”
